Need to know before you enrol/FAQs
Q. What do I need to enrol?
A TEFL qualification
Zoom (free version)
A PC, Mac or laptop with a webcam & mic (screen share functionality is required)
Headphones are not essential as long as you have speakers
Q. How many students will be participating in the course at one time?
A. There will be a maximum of six students with one tutor to ensure all students are given sufficient time to deliver a lesson and provide feedback. Six English language learners/students is also the maximum you would expect to teach at any one time online.
Q. How technical do I have to be?
A. You need to get yourself acquainted with using online platforms, which is why we have chosen Zoom. It is the most widely used and is easy to use and has everything you need to deliver effective online lessons. When you book on the course, you will need to complete a very short pre-course task. This MUST be completed before your first session in order to start and pass your Online Teaching Practice course. The purpose of this pre-course task is to show you the ropes of using Zoom.
Q. What if I have a technical melt-down?
A. This sometimes happens, if you’re having problems getting set up on Zoom then please get in touch and we’ll do our best to help, but give yourself plenty of time to do the pre-course task to work through any issues before your first session begins.
Q. Do I get a letter of reference?
A. Yes, when you have completed the course, you will get a letter from your tutor giving brief feedback on your teaching and participation as an online tutor, which you can use as part of your job application. This will be issued along with your certificate and will be downloadable from your online account.
