Role Overview
They are looking for professional, reliable, and enthusiastic freelance English tutors to deliver high-quality online lessons through their platform.
Tutors work independently, set their own availability and lesson prices, and manage their own students while using the company's booking, payment, classroom, calendar, and progress-tracking tools.
Responsibilities and Duties
You will be responsible for:
- Delivering engaging and personalised online English lessons.
- Teaching students according to their level, goals, interests, and learning needs.
- Preparing appropriate lesson materials and learning activities.
- Creating clear learning objectives and structured lesson plans.
- Providing General English, Business English, conversation, or exam-preparation lessons according to your experience.
- Assessing students’ current English level and identifying areas for improvement.
- Tracking student progress and updating learning goals where required.
- Providing students with constructive feedback after lessons.
- Maintaining accurate availability on your calendar.
- Managing lesson bookings, cancellations, and rescheduling professionally.
- Joining scheduled lessons on time and remaining available for the full lesson duration.
- Responding to student messages within a reasonable timeframe.
- Maintaining a professional, welcoming, and supportive teaching environment.
- Encouraging students to continue with regular lessons and work towards long-term learning goals.
- Following safeguarding, cancellation, payment, and professional conduct policies.
- Keeping all bookings and payments made through the company platform.
- Completing Stripe Connect payment onboarding before your tutor profile can become visible to students.
Tutor Requirements
Applicants should have:
- A minimum 120-hour TEFL, TESOL, CELTA, or equivalent teaching qualification.
- English proficiency of at least B2 level.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A professional and reliable attitude.
- A stable internet connection.
- A computer or laptop with a working camera and microphone.
- A quiet and suitable environment for online teaching.
- The ability to prepare structured and engaging lessons.
- Confidence using online teaching platforms and digital learning materials.
Previous online teaching experience is preferred but not essential for suitably qualified applicants.
Tutor Application Process
Successful applicants must complete the following steps:
- Register and complete their tutor profile.
- Complete the TeacherWave English level and teaching methodology assessment.
- Upload a professional tutor introduction video.
- Submit the application for review.
- Complete Stripe Connect payment onboarding following approval.
Applications should be completed within 72 hours of account creation. Incomplete applications may be automatically declined.
Payment and Tutor Benefits
Tutors can:
- Set their own regular lesson prices.
- Set their own availability.
- Choose how many students they wish to teach.
- Receive secure payments through Stripe Connect.
- Keep 100% of earnings from recurring lessons.
- Receive payment for trial lessons, subject to TeacherWave’s trial payment structure.
- Use integrated booking, messaging, Google Calendar, progress-tracking, and online classroom tools.
- Promote their TeacherWave profile through their own professional and social networks.
It operates on a fixed monthly tutor subscription. The subscription begins only after the tutor receives their first regular student.
Employment Status
This is a freelance, self-employed position. Tutors are not employees of this company and are responsible for managing their own taxes, declarations, insurance, and legal obligations within their country of residence.
