THE OPPORTUNITY
They are looking for passionate, patient ESL teachers who want to make a real difference in someone's life. This is a paid position funded entirely by Habla Seattle, a non-profit organization.
You would be teaching Spanish-speaking adults ranging from complete beginners to intermediate English speakers. Most are working adults with full-time jobs, so lessons are typically scheduled on weekday evenings.
Structure:
— 10-week course per student
— 30-minute lessons once per week
— All lessons conducted online via Zoom, Google Meet, or FaceTime
— A teacher guide and sample curriculum are provided — you won't be starting from scratch
A GREAT FIT FOR STUDENTS IN TRAINING
They especially welcome applications from students currently enrolled in TESL, TESOL, or ESL certification programs. Teaching real adult students is one of the best ways to put your training into practice — and Habla Seattle offers exactly that opportunity. You'll work with a structured curriculum, receive clear guidelines, and gain genuine one-on-one teaching experience with motivated adult learners. If you're looking for a meaningful, flexible way to build your hours and your confidence as an emerging ESL teacher, this is it.
WHO THEY'RE LOOKING FOR
— Native English speakers from the United States or Canada strongly preferred
— TESL/TESOL certification or equivalent training preferred — students currently in certification programs are warmly welcome
— Experience teaching adult beginner ESL learners a plus
— Spanish language skills helpful but not required
— Patient, warm, and genuinely motivated to help
— Available weekday evenings (Pacific Time)
— Comfortable with video call technology
COMPENSATION
This position is paid. Compensation details will be discussed with qualified candidates. Teaching hours are modest — this is designed to fit around an existing schedule, not replace it.
WHY THIS MATTERS
The City of Seattle's own data shows nearly 10,000 residents speak Spanish at home and speak English less than very well. These are hardworking people navigating doctors' offices, their children's schools, and workplaces without the language tools they need. Habla Seattle exists to change that — one student, one teacher, one conversation at a time.
If this resonates with you, we'd love to hear from you.
