Which countries offer the highest TEFL salaries?

With that being said, earning enough money to live is vital and there are certain countries where high salaries and a low cost of living means you will have the comfort to live as well as possible.

South Korea

With salaries ranging between €1000 to €2000 per month, the thriving economy and increasing modernization of this East Asian country make it an ideal location for TEFL teachers. With a low cost of living as well, teachers find they are able to save and still live very comfortably.

With continued demand throughout the year, China has one of the largest TEFL industries in the world. With thousands of jobs available throughout the year, salaries in China are comparable to those in South Korea, with teachers earning €1000 to €2000+ a month. With impeccably high standards when it comes to education, employers in China are know to provide many additional benefits with their roles.

Private tutors have be known to make up an incredible €4000 per month but between €1,500 to €2500 tends to be more common. Qualifications and experience tend to play a part in your earnings with employers offering upwards of £3500 a month to teachers with a Master’s degree.

Saudi Arabia

Salaries in Saudi Arabia are comparable to those in the UAE with schools paying around €2000 to €3500 to qualified EFL teachers. Again, those with considerable experience or additional qualifications could see their earning potential reach €4000. Working in Saudi Arabia may come as a challenge to some EFL teachers but it remains a popular destination among many!

Salaries here can reach around €2000 per month and accommodation and additional benefits are usually included. Things to keep in mind

  • Salaries do vary, so be prepared to start at lower end of an employers salary scale, especially if you are a first time teacher.
  • In Europe and Latin America, your salaries will most likely be a lot less than they would be in Asia.
  • Salaries in Asia and the Middle East are notoriously high so be prepared so roles in Europe and South America to pay less.
  • Some countries have a very low cost of living so you will be able to live comfortably and save at the same time but this isn’t true for all countries.
