Job Details

Children's Village Thailand (Moo Baan Dek), a rural orphanage set amid Thailand’s lush natural landscape, is seeking volunteers to help teach English. The school follows the Summerhill approach, an alternative educational philosophy that emphasizes self-directed learning, emotional well-being, and community responsibility. It serves orphaned and impoverished children, providing them with a safe, nurturing environment where they can learn at their own pace in a non-coercive setting.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain hands-on teaching experience in a unique, student-led learning environment
  • Support students in developing English communication skills
  • Immerse themselves in Thai culture while working with underprivileged youth

What You’ll Do:

Teach English: Lead fun, interactive English classes for children and young learners during the day.

Optional:

  • Support the Organic Garden: Get hands-on experience helping care for our sustainable garden — planting, harvesting, and learning about eco-friendly practices.

  • Spread Awareness: Assist with social media and storytelling to help us share their mission and reach more supporters around the world.

This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with local children, learn about sustainable living, and contribute to meaningful change.

Additional Benefits

• The volunteer teaching positions offer flexible hours, typically around 15 to 25 hours per week. They’re happy to tailor the schedule to fit your preferences and availability, ensuring a rewarding and balanced experience for everyone involved.

• Make a meaningful impact by helping students build confidence and practical English communication skills.

• Bring English to life through interactive lessons, play-based learning, and daily conversation.

• Immerse yourself in Thai culture while working closely with underprivileged youth in a supportive community.

• Receive a Certificate of Completion recognizing your volunteer service and hours.

• Participate in a comprehensive orientation process to prepare you for teaching, classroom expectations, cultural norms, and daily life in the village

• Join a welcoming volunteer community with staff support throughout your stay.

• Experience personal growth in leadership, communication, and cross-cultural understanding.

• Create lasting memories and relationships with students and fellow volunteers.

• Enjoy the benefit of provided meals and comfortable accommodation during your stay. If you like Thai food you are in for a treat.

• Located within reach of stunning temples, waterfalls, markets, and other must-see Thai highlights.

• Spend your days volunteering and your weekends exploring nearby world-class tourist spots.

Requirements

Cost:

Volunteers usually stay in their village although it is not mandatory.

Volunteers that do wish to stay in the village are given accommodation, and three meals per day. While they deeply appreciate your desire to volunteer, their resources are extremely limited. Volunteers are asked to cover the cost of their accommodation and food.

  • For short term volunteers (less than 1 month) the cost of accommodation and food is 500thb($15 USD) per day

  • For long term volunteers(more than 1 month) the cost of accommodation and food is 250thb ($7.50 USD) per day

  • For long term volunteers who commit to 3 months or more, the school will cover your food and accommodation

2025/26 UPDATE: GRANTS FOR US CITIZENS (please note all nationalities are welcome, but grants only available for U.S. citizens)

Part of the mission of their affiliate, a U.S. based 501(c)(3) is to enrich the lives of students and volunteers by providing grants to U.S. citizens. If you qualify and are interested in volunteering/interning, we are currently providing grants that will cover all cost except airfare.

This means that outside of the airfare to Thailand, all in country travel, meals, accommodation and travel insurance within Thailand will be fully covered.

*This grant is only available to volunteer/interns that can commit for a minimum of 6 weeks.
