Thinking about taking a TEFL course? With so many different TEFL providers out there it can be tricky to know which is the best one to go with.
Whether a TEFL or CELTA qualification is the better option for you entirely depends on your situation. It’s not as simple as one being better than the other. Here is a basic run-through of the differences between each and what to consider when deciding what qualification is best for you.
What are TEFL and CELTA?
TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language and CELTA stands for Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults.
A CELTA course is advisable, and usually necessary, for work in colleges and universities and for people who are looking to make teaching English as a foreign language their long time career. An official TEFL certificate however, is highly recommended and more appropriate for those looking to teach English abroad for a shorter amount of time.
One of the biggest differences between CELTA and TEFL is the length of time it can take to get your qualification and the price of doing so.
CELTA courses are run as part of the University of Cambridge and are intensive courses which run full time in the classroom for four or five weeks.
With TEFL Org you can receive an internationally recognized TEFL certificate after just as one weekend with our 20-hour TEFL course. Most students also combine this with one of the online TEFL courses which provide flexible online learning and are usually completed in about six-eight weeks, although it can take as little as one week if you are willing to put your mind to it! CELTA courses cost over £1000 whereas TEFL Org courses start from as little as £159. Find out more: TEFL Course Options
Which one do I need to get job abroad?
You do not need a CELTA course in order to find a job teaching English abroad. Generally we recommend taking at least 120 hours of TEFL training as this is a minimum requirement for many TEFL jobs. All of theTEFL jobs on our TEFL Jobs Centre are only available for TEFL Org graduates to apply for. With over 170 TEFL Jobs in 40 different countries you shouldn’t find it difficult to secure your dream job teaching English abroad!
What about accreditation?
TEFL Org is proud to announce that our courses have more accreditations than any other UK TEFL Course provider. This means that when you have completed your TEFL course, you’ll be awarded an official TEFL certificate that commands respect from TEFL employers all over the world. With that peace of mind you can complete your TEFL studies, knowing that your official TEFL qualification will help you find the very best TEFL teaching positions.
