With 2018 well and truly behind us, we thought we would give our final update on our fundraising for last year’s Charity of the Year, ActionAid UK.
We would first of all like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped us raise money for our 2018 Charity of the Year, ActionAid UK. Through student donations, office fundraising, the Baxter’s 10k Run and our 10th birthday celebrations, we have managed to raise a total of £6,046.60
We have been delighted to play a part in fundraising for such an important and worthwhile cause. For those who are unfamiliar with the work of ActionAid UK, the international charity works predominately across Africa, Asia and Latin America to support the rights of women and girls.
Nancy Gray, ActionAid UK’s Events & Community Engagement Manager comments on the charity’s partnership with TEFL Org in 2018:
“We are delighted to have been TEFL’s charity partner throughout 2018. They have got behind our Not This Girl Appeal to fund the work of local women’s groups and networks in rural Kenya to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls, as well as jumping into action to support those affected by the Indonesia Tsunami earlier this year. The denial of women and girls’ rights is one of the biggest causes of poverty worldwide – and a grave injustice. That’s why at ActionAid we put the rights of women and girls at the heart of everything we do. It wouldn’t be possible without the support of companies like TEFL, thank you so much to everyone that has been involved.”
The ’Not This Girl Appeal’ is backed by the Department for International Development under the UK Aid Match Initiative. The project aims to tackle the issue of violence against women in Kenya, focusing on Nyarongi, Marafa and Kamuthe. Aiming to reach 5,000 girls and 3,400 community members, the project looks to set up girls’ clubs, support local women’s groups and work to respond, prevent and report cases of violence against women.
We are so pleased to have had the opportunity to raise funds for a meaningful charity carrying out such essential work.
