Enthusiastic teachers required for a small family-run English school in Colombo, Sri Lanka

The Samanala Valley Foundation – is a family-run charitable organisation that provides various healthcare and educational services. They are privately funded and self-sustaining allowing them to maintain the highest quality in all their services. SVS School for English is a family-run not-for-profit social enterprise.

The SVS School for English was initiated to provide all Sri Lankans and foreign expatriates working in the country with the opportunity to further their prospects by learning English. Their school came into being so that they may gain an edge in the local jobs market and seize opportunities that may otherwise be denied, due to a lack of internationally relevant language skills.

The aim is to take Sri Lanka forward to be one of the most erudite newly developing nations on the planet.

The school’s ethos is not just to provide education at the lowest possible cost, but also to allow the school to be self-sufficient and self-sustaining so that without further outside investment, the school can continue to provide a high level of education. Student fees are just 150 rupees (LKR) an hour for a 100-hour course, making it affordable for most prospective local students. In addition, for those who cannot even afford their minimal fees, they offer free scholarships.

The SVS School for English has been a spectacular success, attracting voluntary graduate teaching expertise in a rotation system, from all over the English-speaking world. It is now a highly attested and successful teaching institute in Colombo.

Want to do something that matters? Don’t have any teaching experience yet? Worry not!

Volunteer with SVS School for English in Sri Lanka and they’ll give you all the training and materials you need to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of students.

A small, non-profit school based in Colombo, SVS aims to empower adults in Sri Lanka by helping them to develop their English language skills and broaden their worldview.

Spend 6 months working with them and you’ll learn how to open minds and change lives – as well as getting to explore one of the world’s most beautiful islands every weekend!

SVS volunteers teach up to 30hrs of English every week, to classes that include university students, Buddhist monks, trainee architects, lawyers and more. It’s challenging, rewarding and truly fulfilling.

They provide accommodation, meals and transport to and from school – you just have to buy your plane ticket!

Highlights

Teach English on one of the world’s most beautiful islands!
