Job Details

They are looking for British citizens with a university degree and a passion for teaching to fill vacancies for positions in their Year 2 (Ages 6-7) and Year 5 (Ages 9-10) classes.

These motivated individuals will join their growing team which is located in Antananarivo, the heart of Madagascar, and is just entering its seventh year.  The school itself is located in Ivandry, one of the nicest areas in Antananarivo, and boasts a number of restaurants, shops, and bakeries, alongside smaller local establishments, including bars and food markets. All of their school buildings and shared accommodation houses are located in this area and are within a 15-minute walk. The English-speaking community in Madagascar is growing, but as yet still small, so they try to ensure teachers get along well with one another.

Teachers work 7:30 am-4 pm Monday to Friday and 7:30 am-1 pm on Fridays. All school holidays count as paid leave so that you can enjoy travelling around Madagascar. With wild Lemurs living less than 100 miles away, there is always an opportunity, even on weekends, to experience all the beauty Madagascar has to offer. Existing staff members will be more than happy to offer recommendations and guidance, to help you get the most out of your time here.

The school has 160 students ranging between 2-16 years of age; split across 3 school buildings in the area. Students come from a variety of backgrounds. 30% are Malagasy, 30% are from Mauritius and other students come from all over the world including China, Congo, France, America, and Great Britain.

Teachers are expected to deliver the National Curriculum for England to mixed ability classes. For teachers in the lower and middle schools, full lesson plans are provided. For teachers in the upper school, around 15 lessons per week will be given as free periods to allow for lesson planning and administration. In order to prepare the upper school lessons, teachers are provided with up to date resources for each class and each subject. The school is dedicated to offering a strong community feeling in each of its buildings, so class sizes are kept at a maximum of 25 students. You will also have a Teaching Assistant who is able to communicate in; Malagasy, French and English to help you in class.

Before arriving in Madagascar, they expect all staff to compete relevant Safeguarding courses using the accredited Educare online platform, of which you will have a login provided. Upon arriving in Madagascar, you will be given a full week of in-depth and engaging training.

Shared accommodation is provided. Each house has: Fibre-optic broadband, utilities, a cleaning service, a shared car and a night guard.

They also have a range of perks including: an end of year bonus, medical cover, chauffeur service, one round trip flight per year – including airport transfers – and they will arrange your visa for you.
