This school are looking for enthusiastic graduates who want to spend a year teaching in Hong Kong. You will join their team to prepare students for entry to UK day and boarding schools at 11+ or 13+, teach public speaking, and tutor in your subject up to IGCSE level. Their lessons are based on the UK national curriculum and they teach students the same material they would be learning were they in the UK. The majority or the students speak English to a very high level and so they focus less on Teaching English as a foreign language and more on teaching their own specialist subjects. They teach individuals and small groups in their own centre. They work as a closely-knit team to ensure that students grow in confidence and excel.
Depending on your subject, you could be teaching Maths, Science, English, or Humanities to individuals and small groups. They also run Public Speaking and Debate classes to support students who wish to build their confidence. They provide full training, support, and Cantonese lessons if you are interested!
For the last year, they have been teaching online and will continue doing so for some classes but many are now being held in person. When you decide to come to Hong Kong, they will be able to advise on accommodation choices and help you settle in. Your visa will be arranged by them though you may have to provide some documents in advance (photo of passport page etc). Currently, there are some quarantine restrictions coming into Hong Kong, at present, this involves a 3-night stay in a hotel which they will be able to help you arrange but will advise if this changes at all.
Over the last fifteen years, they have developed a good reputation for helping students succeed and have students winning scholarships to competitive schools including Eton and Cheltenham Ladies College. Some of their students might need support and your enthusiasm and commitment to teaching will make a big difference to their lives in their future schools.
Additional BenefitsIf you spend more than 25 hours per week teaching, you will be paid a bonus per additional hour of teaching. You will also be placed on the company medical insurance. They will be able to provide suggestions and advice about the best places to find accommodation in Hong Kong. Should you need to quarantine on your arrival, they will help arrange and will also provide support in the visa application process.
RequirementsWhilst direct tutoring is not required, it is preferred. Candidates will have had to have some experience working with children in the past. Degree required as you will be teaching your specialist subject. Time spent in the UK education system also preferred as they teach UK national curriculum.
