GREAT THINGS START HERE! This company runs English summer courses in the United Kingdom, Malta, Ireland and France for International students aged 8-17 years old. There are various residential Centre Management positions available during June, July and August across our summer centres – 2022.

This is a British Council accredited organisation based in Brighton which has been an ELT industry leader since the 1930’s. They’re currently looking for enthusiastic, experienced, diligent and reliable Centre< Academic, Welfare and Activity Managers, Activity Managers to collaborate together effectively to manage theirbusy and vibrant ELT centres.

CENTRE MANAGEMENT POSITIONS

Their summer language centres offer students an excellent Academic programme, an exciting social programme and the chance to make memories they will never forget. Their Centre Management are required to be energetic and dedicated Managers* to help bring these memories to life by helping to organise our programmes and to safeguard young learners during onsite activities and off-site excursions as well as providing exemplary pastoral care at their residences or low season homestay centres.

*All Management positions are residential apart from their Winter Low Season programmes.

WHAT CENTRE MANAGEMENT POSITIONS ARE AVAILABLE?

CENTRE MANAGER (Non-residential positions available for low season)

The Centre Manager is the key BSC YL team member at the campus and will have the overall responsibility in ensuring that the centre is a success.

Duties will include acting as the company representative to clients, completing important admin duties, managing the team of BSC YL Staff and ensuring that the summer operation conforms to British Council accreditation standards. The Centre Manager will also ensure that the centre follows all COVID19 protocols and will act as the Designated Centre Person (DSP).

ACADEMIC MANAGER (Non-residential positions available for low season)

The main task of the Director of Studies is to line manage and motivate a team of ELT teachers whilst implementing and overseeing all aspects of running a successful BSC YL academic programme.

Duties will include organising and managing student placement test to ensure that students are placed in suitable classes for their level of English. The Academic Manager will observe teachers’ academic lessons and provide constructive feedback in CPD sessions as well as ensuring all lessons start and end on time to avoid any supervision issues. The Academic Manager must ensure that the academic programmes conform to all British Council accreditation standards.

WELFARE MANAGER

The Welfare Manager focuses on managing the care, safety and wellbeing of the students at the centre whilst leading the Welfare team to ensure that school rules, policies and procedures are followed.

Duties include making sure student pastoral ratios and supervision remains consistent, being aware of special requirements, installing emergency procedures, completing risk assessments and acting as the centres Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO).

ACTIVITY MANAGER

Activity Managers are the event planners, sports organisers, and the brains behind making the BSC YL social programme an unforgettable student experience.

Duties will include running a smooth social programme, managing and observing the activity leaders as well as carrying out all BSC YL Safeguarding policies.

WHO ARE THEY LOOKING FOR?

They are proud to have several returning team members every year and as they continue to grow so does their huge desire to recruit positive and engaging Centre Management who want to join their summer teams.

Ideal candidates will have previous experience mentoring Young Learners with a genuine interest in working within a summer school setting.

–          Centre Managers will have a degree and have previous experience of managing a British Council accredited centre.

–          Activity Managers and Welfare Managers will have previous managerial experience as well as having mentored young learners within a residential setting before.

–          Academic Managers will have a degree and must be DELTA, DipTESOL or TEFL Level 5 qualified with at least 1 years’ experience in a similar role.

Safeguarding at BSC YL 

BSC YL is committed to safeguarding and maintaining the welfare of children. As part of our Safer Recruitment Policy:

• Two references (including most recent employer) will be followed up and all gaps in CVs must be explained satisfactorily.

Reference requests will ask specifically whether there is any reason that they should not be employed in situations where they have responsibility for, or substantial access to, persons under 18.

• This role meets the requirements in respect of exempted questions under the UK Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. All applicants who are offered employment will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS, PVG, Garda or Malta equivalent) before the appointment is confirmed. This will include details of cautions, reprimands or final warnings as well as convictions.

• Proof of identity and qualifications will be required at the interview stage. Only those with the right to work in the respective course town can successfully pass recruitment.

Additional Benefits

WHAT’S THE SALARY AND GENERAL CONDITIONS? •            Competitive salary depending on experience and number of students •            Contracts typically run between 4 and 9 weeks. However, their peak period runs from late June – late August (preference given to those who can work the duration of contracts) •           Team members work 6 days a week and at least 8 hours a day •           Working hours may be unsociable due to evening activities, night duty and the times of student arrivals and departures •           A professional reference provided as well as opportunities for continuous professional development (CPD)

All Centre Management should: •    Have the full right to work in the UK, France, Malta or Ireland (depending on the respective centre) •    Be available throughout July and August •    Be motivated, collaborative, dedicated and professional •    Care about the welfare of Young Learners •    Demonstrate proven organisational skills •    Be computer efficient •    Be available to attend a 4-day Induction All successful candidates will need to pass 2 stages of recruitment and pass role specific assessments.
