Meet Caroline – one of the tutors who run our accredited TEFL courses in the UK. All of our tutors are highly qualified and have at least three years of TEFL experience abroad, meaning they know exactly what’s it like to start a new career teaching English abroad.
I am originally from Manchester and studied for my English degree in Liverpool. I went on to study my Post Grad in Education at Liverpool Hope University with a specialty in English. It was here where I first became interested in TEFL due to the number of children entering UK schools with English as a second language and so chose TEFL as my focus. I then worked as a supply teacher and trainer for the Home Office for a year before taking the 20 hour weekend TEFL course and moving to Madrid where I taught English for 2 years. Following this I moved to China and worked as teacher for a year in Shanghai. I have been teaching in the UK for the past 2 years and have also taught in Poland where I achieved an A Grade in CELTA.
I have been involved in TEFL for 7 years and have taught children, teenagers and adults from beginner to advanced and from basic conversation to language for specific business needs. I have thoroughly enjoyed each of the countries I have taught in but above all Spain always holds a special place in my heart for the life and the energy of the people and found teaching there really enjoyable.
For me TEFL is the most amazing and rewarding job as you have a unique opportunity to share your language and to watch students´ skills and confidence grow. You meet a wide range of fascinating people from all over the world and have new and fun challenges every day where you can use your creative skills. You can travel the world experiencing new cultures and at the same time earning good money or helping others by volunteering.
Now as a teacher trainer I relish the prospect of helping other soon to be teachers begin their TEFLjourney and help in any way I can by sharing my tips and experiences.
